Definition?
A person’s self-identity is tied with how they define themselves. The words that are tossed around by themselves or others, without much thought, run much deeper than most think. A person’s body image can impact how they define themselves. Definition? References the words that a person uses to define themselves. My intent is to use words written on the persons’ body to show the viewer that one’s opinion of themselves stems with their body. Definition? Is supposed to make the viewer question how they define themselves and show that most have a negative definition of themselves.
The words a person uses to define themselves not only impact how others interact with them but also impact how they interact with themselves. Self-worth and self-identity are tied together by how ones mind works. The language used upon the body is to discribe how the model sees themselves and show that a person's words does not always define themselves,
This Is Not Who I Am
In everyday life words are tossed around without much thought. We are taught as children that what we say can hurt a person just as bad and if not worse than if we physically harm them. This Is Not Who I Am reflects my ideas of how terminology and labels can be a positive and negative depending on the words themselves. My intent is to use typography to make them uncomfortable and then to have them questions how labels and words define and divide gender identity and sexuality.
Sexuality, or just sex in general, is a big part of most people’s lives. Today, there is a constant conversation about sex, sexual desire, the male gaze, sexuality, gender identity, and what gender is. This list could go on. I used language of sexuality and gender identity to show the impact that words and language can have, whether positive or negative.
